Nepal Earthquake Relief and Rehabilitation

On April 25, 2015, the tiny Himalayan nation of Nepal was hit with a massive earthquake measuring 7.9 on Richter scale. More than 8000 people have been killed, and over 16,000 injured.

“Eight million people have been affected by the massive earthquake in Nepal – more than a quarter of the country’s population – the United Nations says”.

“Nine out of 10 Nepalese troops are said to be involved in search and rescue operations, as the country pleads for more foreign aid to deal with the massive earthquake”.

Our partner organization, AMURT & AMURTEL, have been providing relief in the affected villages of Tanpur and Kharel Thok at Baluwa Devbhumi Panchayat of Kavre District near by Dhulikhel City. Our team has distributed plastic tarps, blankets, flash lights, clothing and basic survival needs. We have also been distributing dry food, beaten rice, sugar, biscuits, essential medicines and fresh water to the victims.

The situation is very grave and the consequences of the disaster are expected to continue for substantial period of time. Media reports highlights massive destruction of children’s schools and ‘Voice Of a Child’ hopes to support a permanent relief work in the area, preferably a school. Progress details will be released.
