Cataract Eye Surgery Center Fundraising Campaign

Cataract Eye Surgery Center – Fundraising Campaign

Voice of a Child, in partnership with Abha Seva Sadan Composite Charitable Hospital, is establishing a Cataract Eye Surgery Center in Purulia district, West Bengal—one of India’s most impoverished and underdeveloped regions. This area, primarily home to tribal villagers, has a significant elderly population suffering from treatable blindness caused by cataracts.

Currently, the hospital’s eye clinics see about 20 cataract cases each month. Unfortunately, patients are often referred to distant hospitals, and many do not follow up, resigning themselves to a life in darkness. A dedicated cataract surgery center at the hospital, offering free surgeries, would be a tremendous blessing for these villagers.

Setting up the surgery center involves full renovation of the surgery room and purchase of all the modern equipment necessary for surgery.

The budget for the two phases are:
Phase 1 – Renovation of the operation room – $10,000
Phase 2 – Purchase of the surgery equipment – $55,000

With generous support from few of our past donors, we already have a commitment of 90% of the necessary funds and are looking to raise the last $5000 from supporters like you. Join hands with us and help bring eyesight to the neediest villagers of Purulia district.

For the villagers, Abha Seva Sadan Hospital is an essential lifeline for their medical needs, with the nearest alternative hospital located 25 kilometers away. Established in 1963, Abha Seva Sadan currently serves over 100,000 people from 85 surrounding villages, providing essential healthcare services to this marginalized community.

In the past, we organized annual eye camps using borrowed equipment (see a few pictures below). However, we recognized the pressing need for a permanent eye surgery center to better serve a larger number of patients.
