Tatuara School, West Bengal, India
Project Summary
Transforming Education in rural India
Imagine being a child who wakes up every morning, eager to learn — and walks to a school with no running water, no toilets, no windows, and no safe stairs to reach upper floor. That is the daily reality for nearly 200 children in Tatuara Village, West Bengal, India.
And yet — they show up. Every single day.
They come because their parents believe that education is the pathway to a better future — a door out of poverty. And we believe it too.
The primary school in Tatuara Village is at the heart of this community. Every day, children from Kindergarten through 5th grade children fill its classrooms, guided by devoted teachers.
But the school building is unfinished and unsafe. Classrooms are overcrowded. There are no toilets, or reliable access to clean water. Children climb unstable construction ladders to reach the upper floor. Many sit on cold cement floors through winter. Walls are bare and unplastered, and the building lacks basic doors and windows.
These children deserve so much better.
In January 2026, VOC representatives visited Tatuara school and saw firsthand the conditions in which these children learn. After careful assessment, detailed planning and preparation, VOC committed to transforming the school. Construction began on May 1st, 2026.
With your support, VOC plans to complete renovation of Tatuara school by September 30, 2026.
Here is what your donation will make possible:
- Two new classrooms

The renovation of Tatuara School is the first step in VOC’s multi-year commitment to renovating nearly 30 schools across the Ananda Nagar network, transforming them, one by one, into safe, dignified, and joyful places of learning.
Operated by Ananda Marga’s Education Wing, these schools serve more than 3,000 students whose families live in deep poverty but refuse to give up on their children’s futures.
These families are not seeking dependency. They are seeking opportunities.
And education is the most powerful gift we can offer.
