Brazil floods – Our work has begun

When the floods hit the area around Jan 12, 2011, initially we were greatly concerned about our project site and friends in Petropolis. These floods are some of the largest that ever hit Brasil, and consider by some to be the largest natural disaster in Brasil. Fortunately all our friends, business associates, project participants and Board members are safe. For the most part, their family members are also safe.

We started our work of relief supply distribution immediately with the help of our Board members and President Henrique Peccini and our Social Service Secretary Camila Guerra. Marcos Pinto, our academic consultant for the schools also assisted Camila in organization, documentation and photography. We coordinated local volunteers from our service project areas and initiated our work.

Additionally, we integrated our effort with Fraternity’s wider memberships. Fraternity is a progressive spiritual organization that Tara and Kirit regularly visit during their annual visit to Brasil. In August 2010, Kirit gave a talk at Fraternity on Ananda Marga’s spiritual teachings and established working relationship with them. This contact enabled us to quickly mobilize our resources with coordinated efforts. Henrique was able to collect a very large quantity of supplies at his business which is located in the heart of the downtown Petropolis.

Our efforts of supply distribution, continues to serve the flood victims. We expect that the community will need funds for permanent project work to rebuild itself. Therefore, please donate to the flood victims by Paypal on our site. Voice of a Child is a 501(c)(3) organization and all your donations are fully tax deductible.
