The portable Ultrasound machine that VOC purchased for our partner organization – AMURT-Africa – is being put to great use on a daily basis in the medical clinics run by them. The clinics are located in the Ebonyi state – which is one of the poorest states in Nigeria. According to the states’s website, for every 100 live births, one Ebonyi woman dies of peri-natal causes, thus giving Ebonyi one of the highest maternal mortality rates in the world.
The Mindray DP-30 machine that we purchased is light weight, extremely portable, easy to use and provides excellent quality images. The machine was purchased earlier this year, using the Yahoo Employee Foundation grant that VOC won. We would like to once again acknowledge Yahoo Inc. and YEF for the grant.
